Quality of Education

Both my partner & I received a great education at the CTC. And we are happy to support it through the Foundation. I highly value the learning atmosphere of learning and hands on training that provides young men and women with such a great opportunity to learn a skill.

Quality of CTC Graduates

My grandfather started Jones Pontiac in Lancaster in 1960. Through the years we were blessed to have Honda, GMC, Buick and Acura join our family of dealerships. Currently we employ approximately 180 people in various capacities from sales, service and parts departments at our dealership. Approximately 40 of our employees started their careers at Lancaster CTC. Our success in the automobile business would not have been possible without the partnership that we have enjoyed with the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center.

The automobile in the 1960’s was much simpler than today. As we grew through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, we saw catalytic converters, on-board computers, and electronics in ignition systems, fuel injection and transmissions arrive on the scene. Multifaceted entertainment and navigational systems have become the norm. Electronic service information became vital to keep up with the complexity of vehicles. Service and repair on modern vehicles required more skills and knowledge than ever before. To fill those needs we have turned to Lancaster CTC for help.

In cooperation with the Lancaster CTC and the AYES (Automotive Youth Education Systems) program, we have been able to bring top-rate students into our facilities during their senior years to shadow a skilled technician who also serves as a mentor. We are able to develop these individuals into highly skilled automotive technicians and collision repair technicians trained in our methods and procedures. Many of these students have continued their education with a college degree in automotive technology, which has provided us with additional benefits.

This program has been very successful and is the backbone for our growth. No matter what new technological changes may come in the future, we have a business partner to help provide us with skilled personnel to handle these new challenges.

I often receive inquiries from other dealership and business owners about where we find good quality employees. The answer is simple. Thanks to our partnership with the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center, I feel confident that we will never have a shortage of qualified personnel.

Events

Fly on the Run is a great event in which I’ve been pleased to participate year after year and have been able to witness firsthand its positive and rewarding benefits.  Thanks to the generosity of local sponsors, this initiative provides long-lasting support to LCCTC’s scholarship program and its students, thus providing Lancaster County businesses with highly qualified employees.  It’s the ideal example of people giving back to make the community a better place to live.

Likewise and just importantly, the Student and Business Leadership Symposium recently hosted by LCCTC afforded our young, future leaders another opportunity to obtain some valuable leadership lessons and standards that can be keys to success.  In addition to the value of leadership, this experience introduced students to various and diverse career paths and ultimately encouraging them to be lifelong learners.
